China's SinoHydro Corporation (previously known China Water Resources Hydropower Engineering Corporation), has signed a contract on Chalillo dam Belize. first project SinoHydro Latin America.

The Chalillo dam, located on upper Macal River western Belize, is 44 meters high, will hold 140,000 cubic meters reservoir volume, installed with 2x3 650 kW generators. contract cost US$22.15 million. construction period will take 24 months.

Sinohydro bid tender on October 31, 2002, got the first bid. After several rounds discussion with AMEC in Canada, AMEC proposed including EPC contract the original contract project's machinery generators. Both sides signed agreement on Feb. 24, 2003. SinoHydro has assigned 11th Bureau implement project. The 11th Bureau currently undertaking pre-preparatory work.
